I enter, switch on the fairy lights
And suddenly there’s an inner glow in the darkness
The wind chimes aren’t even moving
Yet there’s a beautiful lilt in their calmness
I make a cup of tea, there’s no sugar
But there’s a comfort I can’t quite fathom
The cookies, they’re just cookies from a pack
But somehow, they taste of compassion.
Home. It’s so much more than a feeling.
It’s like I found a reason
To be the person I’m in my heart
Born to be safe, yet bred in freedom.
The music’s on, it’s a foreign tune
But it’s a rhythm that lifts my spirit
I look outside, concrete hides the trees
But the moon still looks so vivid
Dinner’s not so tempting, but that’s okay
For there’s enough to fill my soul
It’s just another day when I’ve got back home
But I feel stirred, yet in control.
Home. It’s so much more than a feeling.
It’s like I found a reason
To be the person I’m in my heart
Born to be safe, yet bred in freedom.
